EXPANDED ACCEPTABLE OPERATIONS
The South Carolina Home Builders Self Insurers Fund (SCHBSIF) is now open to write commercial Workers’ Compensation accounts.
We will immediately begin accepting applications for commercial General Contractors and subcontractors who are engaged in new construction, upfitting, or renovations. We are now capable of providing coverage to entities whose exposures are 100% commercial and who perform on-site work at heights less than 3 stories. Risks that fall outside this scope may be considered on an individual basis.
We will also consider businesses that provide services such as electrical or mechanical maintenance to industrial concerns like manufacturing facilities, governmental entities, etc.
Membership in the Home Builders Association of South Carolina will remain a requirement for participation in the SCHBSIF.
For questions regarding these new opportunities please contact our Underwriting Manager, Brandy Shealy, at bshealy@schbsif.com or 800-678-8178.

On July 1, the SCHBSIF will begin transitioning to our new primary business software system. We recently completed our model office testing and we are pleased with the results. We are anticipating a relatively smooth transition and welcome your questions and comments about our new system.
When we go live, our website information portal will be unavailable for 30 to 60 days as this is contained in Phase II of deployment. If you need any information you normally get from this portal please call one of our CSR’s at 800-678-8178. When we reactive the portal with the WebTropics product, you will be able to get similar information.
When the portal becomes active at a later date, you can call your CSR to obtain the information necessary to permit you to view your account.

REFUND OF MEMBER CONTRIBUTIONS
GREAT NEWS……AGAIN!
THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOME BUILDERS SELF INSURERS FUND (SCHBSIF) IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE PRELIMINARY FINANCIAL REVIEW OF THE 2009 POLICY YEAR IS VERY FAVORABLE, AND THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ANTICIPATES A SECOND CONSECUTIVE ANNUAL REFUND OF MEMBERS’ CONTRIBUTIONS TO BE DISBURSED DURING SUMMER OF 2010 TO THOSE MEMBERS WHO PARTICIPATED FOR ALL OR PART OF 2009.
THE FINAL AMOUNT OF THE DISBURSEMENT WILL BE DETERMINED AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE SCHBSIF FINANCIAL AUDIT IN JUNE OF 2010. WE ANTICIPATE THE AMOUNT OF THE 2010 DISBURSEMENT TO BE SIMILAR TO THAT OF 2009.
PLEASE LOOK FOR MORE INFORMATION REGARDING THIS DEVELOPMENT IN FUTURE EDITIONS OF THE SCHBSIF PUBLICATION OR THE HBASC BUILDERS JOURNAL.

If you have not taken a moment to look at our new website please do so. We have made several changes that will make doing business with the SIF much easier.
Under the “Agents” tab, the section titled “Applications and Forms” now contains information regarding the applications and forms that are needed in order to obtain a quote and/or have coverage bound. Our new Surety Bond Application can also be obtained here.
The ability to obtain loss information for any insured written by your agency is now available through our website. Under the “Agents” tab, the section titled “Agent Login”. You will need a password and login ID for this function. If you do not know your agency password and/or ID, or need one please contact Tammy Floyd at tfloyd@schbsif.com .
For your convenience, correspondence and memos to agents are also listed under the “Agents” tab.
Our Newsletters that are published in the Builders Journal quarterly can be found under the “Who We Are” tab.
The “Member Services” tab is for the use of members and prospects. The section titled “How to get a quote” is designed for prospects, not agents, to submit partial information to us so that we can forward the info to a local agent for follow up with the prospect. The agent will then need to complete the WC Accord Application and the Contractors Supplemental Application for a quote. If you are an AGENT, DO NOT send information regarding your risk in this format.
If you have any questions regarding the information on our website do not hesitate to give me a call.

Some Contractors will not receive license renewal notice
It has been brought to my attention that certain groups of SC Licensed Contractors were not sent notices that their license was due to renew. As I understand it the state agency will not send any further notification to these contractors.
You may want to call your insured contractors and ask them to physically check the expiration date on their license to make sure theirs is current and avoid any late fees or retesting.
Also if your contractor has moved, it is a requirement of the licensing board that licensed contractors notify the state of their new address within 10 or 15 days of the move.

In House Audit Staff To Schedule Visits
Our in house audit staff, Craig Manning, John Iannace, and Brian Emery, will be contacting your agency to schedule a visit to meet with you, your producers and CSR's. They will review SCHBSIF auditing criteria that will be of benefit to your clients and may save them money on their WC premiums. Our audit staff has visited several agencies and the information discussed gave both the producer and CSR's a better understanding of the audit function and how your insured can use the benefits offered by SCHBSIF to their best advantage.
The audit staff will highlight the benefits of labor and material breakdown on invoices, certificates of insurance, benefits and mechanics of splitting payrolls, classification questions and any other audit topic you may wish to discuss.
We appreciate you taking time to meet with them and taking advantage of one of the benefits offered by the SCHBSIF to its agents and members.

Members of the SIF who had no audit premiums due at the time of this refund received the full amount due to them.
Members who owed the SIF audit premiums at the time of this refund received a credit which was applied to those premiums due. If the refund amount exceeded the premium due the member received a check for the difference.
Those members whose audit premiums due to the SIF exceeded their refund did not receive a check, and the full amount of the credit was applied to their account.
If you are contacted by your members regarding questions about the distribution of refunds please feel free to refer them to our office.

Helping Contractors in Rough Times
Effective immediately the SCHBSIF is waiving the $100 minimum payment due with your monthly self audit. The amount due will be the actual premium calculated using the formula provided on your self audit worksheet. If you do not have any payroll simply write NO PAYROLL on the form and return to us. Our minimum annual premium of $1200 will still apply.
